MANUALS

I'm basically a shade tree mechanic I did all my own work on my 65 F100 and I plan on doing most of everything on my 72 F250 CS / SC except for electrical ( always been my achilles heel ).

I always used Haynes manuals formy Accord, Corolla, and Aerostar ( although the Haynes manual for the Aerostar left alot to be desired ).

I want to get a manual for the F250 but I need one that is geared towards someone like me. Anyone know of good manual(s) and where to get them?

Thanks, Todd.

This is where I get my manuals, they are used by the dealerships.

Thanks Grubbworm. I just went on their site and they don't have manuals for that year. It's odd they have 1964 and then skip to 1974.

I checked Chilton's and Haynes and neither has that year or even 1967 to 72' Haynes had a 1973 - 1979

Guess I'm FUBAR with this.

I would call them and see why they don't have it listed. Maybe they will tell you that you could use the '79.

I've always preferred the factory Ford manuals. It's usually a three volume set. They have much more detailed info than the aftermarket manuals like Haynes or Chilton. They're also more specific and correct in those annoying minor differences that exist between model years.

Watch on ebay for a '72 manual set in the ebay Motors/Manuals & Literature section. You can usually find a grubby used set for $30, or you can pay more for a cleaner set. And there's sellers with copies of the factory manuals on a CD ROM.

To me there's something aesthetically wrong with working on your '72 Ford pickup under a nice shade tree, and having a laptop computer sitting there in the dirt with the manual on the screen. It just ain't right. You need the greasy old book. And an old hound dog sleeping nearby.

FWIW, I have a Chilton book. It covers Ford Pick-ups 1965-1986. All US and Canadian models of F100, F150, F250, F300, F350, 2 and 4 wheel drive, gasoline and diesel engines.

It's not the new books, it's an older style, big FAT, and loaded with info. It's the 23ed printing, printed in May 2000, according to the inside cover. Part # 6913. I recommend it. Only problem I have with it is not enough photos, especially when it refers to a specific part that have no idea what it looks like. Otherwise great.

Side note: I tend to forget I have this thing. It came with the truck, but I always forget I have it when I need an answer.
