Just got my X back after new ball joints, upper and lower, axle U-joints, both sides, and new tie rod ends, plus alignment. WOW, the X rides and steers like new! I didn't even think there was that much wear on the old components until thay were all replaced! All told parts and labor ended up at $1044.00. Much better than using a whole weekend (maybe more) doing this myself outside Now I just have to save up for the new muffler.
I have 160,000 on my X, the mechanic claims they looked to be factory originals, but I'm a little skeptical about that, I have never heard of stock ball joints lasting much past 100,000, but who knows I guess. I know for sure they had at least 70,000 on them, as that is how many I have put on the truck since purchase.
Yeah, new guy here....I just had the whole X undercarriage done. I did a slew of things including ball joints and 4wd hubs new and 4wd relay motor. Total bill $1,600. It was alot of work no doubt and a buddy at the dealership maint. did the work. The X runs like new! literally more stable and no steering wheel play. I have 97,000 miles on this monster and the v-10. I must admit now I will probably keep this vehicle for quite some time. I have six kids and this is really the way to take everyone anywhere! light green and mint condition. I purchased the vehicle at 95,000 miles in mint shape for $8,000. Total investment is now around $9,600. I think I did well, what do you think?
can anybody tell me were the factory ball joints greaseable or not i have a 2000 limited with a v10 that i picked up a few months back it has 160000 miles on it and handles great but does have upper ball joints that are greaseable the lower ones are not thanks
that is why i was wondering why the top joints are greasable and the bottoms are not also since the top have been replaced why would they have not put in greasable ones on the bottom if ford had done the work would they have not used greasable on the lower ones thanks
My only thought would be that they were done at different times by different mechanics, but that still seems odd, why not do all 4 when its torn apart? The only logical explanation would be their supplier did not have the lower greaseable ones in stock? Surely odd either way!
