help with driveshaft please

please help me with my driveshaft please, my rear u joint thats closest to the differential has play in it, also I'm not sure if these are bad carrier bearing tests but I put the truck in neutral, park brake on, and grabbed the drive shaft near the carrier and moved it up and down and I can see the yoke moving up and down and clunking, so I know for the u joint I'll need my torx bits, then do I just pull the shaft out from the transfer case? I do not have a shop press to get the joint out though

I don't know much about the carrier bearing part sorry. But you can swap the joints with a c-clamp or benchvise. Find a socket that the cup will fit into but will seat against the yoke. For the other side find a socket hat is a little smaller than the cup. Put the sockets and the yoke in the clamp/vise and press them out. Then place the joint in the empty yoke and the cups in the holes makeing sure the needle bearings stay in place and press them in till flush. Then take the smaller socket and press he cups in till you can get the clip in the groove. Don't go to far or it will bind the joint. Install and grease. I have done this with a hammer instead of clamp/vise along the roadside and on the trail lol.

oh okay, do you think this u joint and the other bearing could be the reason why the truck has the annoying vibration I've been trying to figure out?

Ya it will do that lol. It is a cheap fix as well. Did you do a search to find out how to remove the carrier bearing?

not yet I actually just watched a video on replacing u joints on the drve shaft with the vice and socket method you told me about, it seems pretty easy, now I need to figure the carrier bearing funny business, also is there a special torque for the drive shaft bolts, I do not want it flying off on me, yikes lol

sanding the SURFACE rust off of the driveshaft will make changing carrier bearing easier. job is not fun and really depends on tools you have as the best way to remove and replace it.

ahh, I've been reading about needing a press to get the old bearing out and the new one in, I saw a method on cutting the old bearing then hitting with a chisel to pop it off which I know that I can do but then will I be able to get the new bearing on without a press

I have used the cut and chisel method to get the bearing off. I had a friend make a tool by welding the old inner race on a piece of pipe and used that to put the new bearing on. Did clean up the rust first. Had no problem getting the new bearing on.

well got the joints in, left the carrier alone theres about 2mm of play in it so I figured its so small it must be normal?? who knows? ofcourse my 50mph vibration is still here, this is so frustrating I'm ready to get rid of this truck, I looked at the tranny mount and it looks fine crossmember that its on looks fine aswell, found a heatshield that was dangling and hitting the the transfer case so I zip tied that back up other than that I'm at wits end

Does the vibration go away at a higher speed, like 60 mph? My truck is like that but more noise than vibration. When I gave you my tip, I was talking about the hangar bearing, the one that supports the two piece drive shaft.
