Hey guys, I hope that someone out there can help. My 97 F250 7.3 PS is not starting. When I turn the key I hear the solonoids clicking, both of which have been replaced today. I can jump the starter ( at the solonoid with 2 screwdrivers) and the truck will crank and run. Both batteries show full power. Any good ideas? Thanks!
I don't think you'll get a click if it thinks its not in P or N, or clutch in.
Were you shorting out the relay, standing up, upper passenger side of the engine compartment? Or were you down at the starter doing something? If it was the relay you just replaced and still getting the clicking, and if it will always consistently start by shorting it out, I'd be suspicious of the contacts at the relay, or the new relay itself. A multimeter will serve you well for testing here.
My truck with the exact same symptoms and could be started at the solenoid = bad starter. Had a lifetime warranty on it so took it back and got new. Put it on and cranked right up. May not be your problem but fixed mine up.
And if you need one I have a good starter in the garage I can part with
