My first chip in key in new 2011. Dealer says without the key, NOBODY can steal these trucks - I don't know the technology - is this true? Down here in central/south Texas these guys are stealing 250/350 (mostly CC) ripping the seats out to haul multiple people up from the south..
I have some old methods of theft prevention that I can install if these things can be defeated... Can anyone verify??
Thanks For reply - can anyone give insight into the Integrated Keyhead Transmitters and if the bad guys have tools to defeat/steal. I realize that anything can be defeated, but is this common technology?
I have had some form of disabling the vehicle on all my trucks since the early 90's that make me feel confident that the common punk won't drive off in my rig. I don't want to rely on this IKT if everyone except me knows how to defeat them..
Older systems were pretty easy to defeat. Just do a search on installing remote starter. There are ALWAYS ways around things. I am sure the new systems would be no harder.
The low-life trying to steal the truck would need to bypass the chip system somehow. I'm not sure if its as simple as the chip system's wires needing to be rerouted or if they would need to trick the computer into thinking the right key was there.
the ford passive antitheft system on my 03' crown vic and 08' superduty are kind of hard to get by, there is a antenna around the ign. lock cylinder, the key has a transponder in it. there are millions of codes the key may have, not just a few like the old 80's gm cars. the pats module is programmed to the pcm, so if a crook wanted to steal the truck he cuoldent just bring a pats module with matching key, break out the ign. lock. and plug in his pats module. the new module would have to be programmed into the pcm first. without a matching key the pcm wont let the engine start, but not sure if the pcm prevents fuel, ign. or both.
one thing for sure if the vehicle with a pats system has a after market remote start with the "key holder pats bypass" the truck becomes easy to steal. the key is programmed to the trucks pats system, all you would have to do is break out the ign. lock, tape the key ( which was hidden under the dash) right near the ign. lock and fire it up with a screw driver.
Thanks for the replies... It just that I work/almost live out of the thing & I don't like trusting just anybody these days...
Also - Like I said these 250/350 CC are the most popular things to steal in my area... Mine is actually a SuperCab so they might not like it as much..
Cops busted some guys just east of Austin - House full of illegals, 5 or 6 CC's (stolen) Lots of tool boxes, personal items, tools, guns, etc. - all been ripped out of pickups..
