Hello all !
I got the 360 in and fired it up today!
Now for the problem....
I now have almost 8 inches of free travel on my clutch pedal with the clutch fork rod adjusted all the way out.
The rod is the unit that came with the 400 in my '78 F350, and is about 8 inches long.
Do the FE engines use a longer rod, or am I missing something?
Thanks,
Mike

I have a 360 hooked up to an np435 and i'm pretty sure mine is longer than that. When i first bought this truck(76f250 4x4) it had A lot of dead slop at the top of the pedal,You could hook your foot under the pedal and pull it about 4-5 inches back. However when i changed engines (just another 360, same clutch) for one reason or another all the play at the top went away. I never adjusted the clutch while i switched engines.
Was the previous engine the same? Did you change bellhousings at all? Like i said, I am pretty sure mine is longer but not 100 percent.
My thoughts on the issue, Hope it helps!!!
I just read your reply with better eyes..
The engine that came out was a '78 400.
The engine that went in is a '74 360, along with a different bellhousing.
Sorry.
Same transmission though, although I don't think that makes a lot of difference in the geometry ahead of it.
Thanks,
Mike
