(Kind of related to an old thread, so mods please move or delete this if I'm breaking any rules... I tried asking in my other thread, but my new questions are buried in a long, old discussion so I don't think they are being seen.)
My problem is simply this: I have lost all forward gears in my '97 E150 with a 4R70W. I plan to put a junkyard transmission in it this weekend, (as I did a year and a half and 30k miles ago) and I need to know what's compatible.
My research tells me the following:
Am I missing anything?
My possible list of donor vehicles includes:
I believe all of these cars have a 4R70W when equipped with a 4.6. Are any of these transmissions not compatible, or for any other reason to be avoided?
Armed with the knowledge above and a pin diagram, I should be able to use just about any 4R70W transmission in my van, right?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Now that I actually own this van, I'm sure I will have more questions. I will probably become a regular around here, and eventually I hope I'll be able to contribute my own experience to the knowledge base the board provides.
oh man I'm in the same boat. Is the 4r70w the same as the aode? I'm a mustang guy and have connections to the aode trans. will it work in my van with a 4.2?
4R70W is not quite the same as the AODE, although it is derived from it. The gear ratios aren't the same and they apparently aren't directly interchangeable.
