Another Transfer Case Question
96 explorer, 4.0L.
Removed the transfer case motor. I don't think brown trans fluid is supposed to leak from the back from the transfer case motor, so I say NOT a good sign. Plus I manually moved the transfer case switch from L to H manually , started the engine, put the truck in gear. Did not hook up. Put it back to L and the trans hooks up.
Someone confirm that the transfer case is toast. Did I miss anything?
One more thing. 275,000 miles on this thing. It was given to me. Worth fixing? Or worth more scrapping? I have a 4x4 f150 already so I don't NEED it.

Don't think it should leak out when you remove the shift motor, none of mine ever has. Brown fluid is never a good sign.
Transfer cases for your Ex should be plentiful and cheap. Fix or not .... up to you but that's a lot of miles.
