I have some issues with my 1993 460. I recently got this truck and am trying to fix a few issues. The idle has been about 950 to 1100 rpm and I cannot get it to come down. I have replaced the IAC, TPS, Coolant temp sensor, wires, plugs, cap and rotor, and fixed about a dozen vacuum leaks, and it still idles high. I have used the propane and carb cleaner tests to try and find any other vacuum leaks with no results. I have set the timing back down to 10 degrees btdc with the jumper removed. I am about ready to force the idle down with timing or something. Its driving me nuts. The truck runs flawlessly, just has a high idle.
No I didn't, I haven't had a 460 in nearly 10 years. I completely forgot about that. I have been driving Powerstrokes for too long. I love this 460 so much more than those diesels. I'll do the battery disconnect tonight and see how it goes. I don't have an OBD1 reader anymore. Isn't there a way to pull codes w/o a reader on these trucks? I have just been going on gut instinct from the other 460 trucks we have had over the years.
You may find your problem's the ACT. It's constant & not surging right?
There's a IAC Idle Re-Range Procedure, but no active codes present first. (Usually done when the Idle creeps up as a result of a timing advance, & doesn't self adjust back to normal).
