everything is fine until i turn on the A/C then while sitting at the stop light my volt meter starts heading south and every now and then the car turns off. if i catch it in time and slip it into nuetral and hit the gas it goes back up. Could this be the alternator?
Most likely your IAC valve is full of carbon. First try taking it off and cleaning it. If that doesn't solve the problem them you might have to replace it.
FWIW the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve regulates the engine idle as additional loads are applied and removed. When applying the added A/C load, the IAC would normally open up a bit more and raise the engine idle back up to normal. But if it's sticking, the idle stays down and the engine stalls.

The clue that it isn't the alternator is the fact that raising the rpm brings the volts back up. If the alternator was bad, the battery wouldn't make it more than a day or so before the truck would no longer start.
Clean it with carb cleaner, then if available blow it out good with compressed air. Your goal is to have the plunger in there be able to move smoothly without sticking.
thanks again cleaned it out its definetly better but i am ordering a new one now becouse it will act up not all the time but enough to know that its time to replace it. ,ay i bother you with another question? My transmission lever does not line up with the P for parking or any of the other letters how can i set it back to where it looks right. all the gears enter fine just an ocassional miss when i put it in park it stays in reverse until i nudge it back towards the P.
Look under the dash, on the steering column, below the instrument cluster. There you'll find a small cable. At one end of the cable sheath is a wheel. Turn that wheel to adjust the alignment of the pointer.
Sometimes the mount for the adjustment wheel breaks. In that event some people have had success with tying the cable back with a wire-tye just enough to to make the adjustment.
