codes codes codes

ok guys sorry for starting a new thread, but (other than Conaski) it seems as if my other thread is at a standstill, plus figure this will get a few more views.. anyways changed a engine wire harness from a 90 engine to the 89 harness that matches the body harness and computer, truck runs like crap, installed a brand new TPS and ran codes... this is what i got

KOEO

51 - ECT sensor signal is greater thanmaximum of 4.6 volts
22 - MAP/BP out of self test range
53 - TPS aboive max 4.5 volts
54 - ACT sensor greater than 4.6 volts
35 - PFE or EVP circuit above max limit 4.81 volts

CM

22 - same as above
35 - same as above
51 - same as above
53 - same as above
54 - same as above

KOER

98 - Hard Fault present ??!!?? not a clue what that means
22 - Map out of range
54 - has no KOER code (ACT related)
51 - has no KOER code (ECT related)
53 - has no KOER code (TPS related)

all these codes got defined by fordfuelinjection, my question is i know all those sensors did not go bad that fast, so my question is what could cause something to throw that many sensor codes that quick? i cannot say the exact condition of the engine harness that i put on, it came with the truck when i got it, could the computer be fried from a surge, and if so could i try a computer from a 90, are all the pins on a 90 computer the same location as a 89??

looking at a diagram of wiring for 89, it looks like the 1 thing all the above have in common is they all run off the same wire coming from pin 46, says its a black and white wire, could it be brok and be causing the sensors to go crazy, also the self test connector is on the same circuit, so it doesnt seem that if the self test is working that that would be the cause of the erratic sensors, but i could be wrong, anyone have any ideas

Is it possible you missed a ground connection somewhere?

Just thinking out loud......

Or the wiring harness could have a short somewhere, try the ECU on some other truck, to make sure it's working, that would point at the harness.

well with the 90 engine harness all the sensors were working fine, just it was pinging like a S.O.B. and i realized the 89 is pinned different than the 90, so i know that many sensors did not go out that quick, and the only change i made was the engine wire harness which is a exact plug in except the 89 harness has a ground ring between the number 4 cyl and number 8 cyl, my intake manifold had a stud type bolt in it, and i used it as a ground, would that be sufficient with the intake being aluminum or should i tie it in where the engine ties to the body ground ( follow the ground that is right where the wiper motor bolts up) other than that 1 ground, the only thing i can figure that ties all them sensors together is pin 46 coming out of the ecm

Yeah all those codes would indicate a wiring problem or a fried EEC, pull it and inspect the connector for broken wires or pins that are pushed back or bent, and if that looks OK then try the '90 computer.

It sure sounds as if the reference voltage going to all of the sensors is too high. That implies either a bad pcm ( I think), or the reference voltage wire being attached to the wrong pin.

Just my .02

I can't find my code book right now which gives a full explanation of it, but I think a code 98 indicates that, basically, your computer is fried and it's running in "fail safe" mode. Basically it's just sending and receiving the info it absolutely needs to keep the truck running.

But my memory is terrible, so don't lose hope just yet. Unless someone beats me to it I'll try to find my book tomorrow so I can look up the full definition of it.

Yikes!

My book that came with my Equus #3145 tester says 98 is a EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) failure of the processor.

Hmm . . . hope that ain't right . . .

so as it goes, we have 2 votes for a fried computer huh, hmm... hope for the best but nothing else hook up a different computer from a 90 and see if it makes a difference...
DBGrif91.... if you can find your book and make a conformation on that it would be greatly appreciated

KOER DTC 98 indicates a hard fault. This caused by any sensor with a feedback signal that is out of range. You already have codes indicating various sensors are out range so this is not a big surprise.

ok so an update, i plugged in the computer out of a 90 with the E4OD, fired it up and let it warm up, shut down and run codes, it would not run KOER test but i got KOEO and CM
only one that bothers me is
31 - PFE or EVP circuit below minimum voltage of .24 volts
i also got more codes but they are all related to E4OD and i dont have that tranny in there so completely understandable, but she smoothed out and revved good, so i have a new computer on order....
my 1 question is this... will the computer hold a higher rpm because its looking for the tranny and trying to bump up line pressure?? or would it have something to do with that code 31, because i was idleing at 1500 rpms when it use to idle at about 800-900
