F250 Wont start, getting close.
I just connected a charged battery.
Cleaned the terminals and cable ends w/ baking soda & water.
Pulled back some of the cable coating, cables aren't coroded like I thought.
I Made a jumper wire from the battery (+) to the relay. I Removed the rubber boot from the relay post and connected the jumper.
The starter took off. = Relay is good, starter is good, battery good.
Jumped in the truck, turned the key- dash board lite up properly, and the truck fired up. I Tried to turn the truck on again and nothing. No dash lights, dome light, radio, door alarms, or horn. I turned the key to the accessory setting a got the radio. I turned the key to try to start nothing. Back to accessory -radio for 5 second then off, nothing. The Relays in the fuse box where clicking for about 5 sec. then off.
I tried shifting from p,r,n,d, d1,d2 to see if it may be the transmission range sensor, preventing this no start. No change, still cant start. Now i'm going to crawl under the knee board and pull the ignition Module, (not sure of the real name). I" check for continuity there. Last choice will the the actual ignition switch.
What to you all think. I need to get the F250 running quickly.
Thanks.
Even though these tests are perform with the switch in the "run" position (per the Hanes Manual), Does this confirm that it is my switch that is cause of my -no start problem?
Thanks
You can also hook the battery up, and then jump the 12v input(yellow wire?) to the start wire(red/blue wire?), and see if it cranks. Just make sure it's out of gear or in park when you do this.
At first i didn't know if moving the spring loaded switch to the start position would mess with the alignment when i reinstall the iginition switch. But i said oh well, and tried it. Yes i got continuity the ignition switch is good.
I took my battery ground wire off because i did find corosion in that one, but wasn't convinced it was bad enough to prevent the truck from starting. I took a grinding wheel to the frame and reinstalled the battery ground wire.
I connected the battery and tried to start the truck by pushing on the spring loaded switch. This isolated the key switch. Fired right up. Then i re-connected the the ignition switch, turned the key and the truck fired up.
The only thing that hasn't truely been tested is the actual key switch. Otherwise I really haven't found a cause to this "no start problem". Is there a test i can do to check the key switch?
Thanks,
