Air distribution problem

Hi all, Having an unusual problem with my air distribution system. With the switch set to AC or Max AC the air blows cold and seems to work fine. The problem is that while driving, the air blowing from the panel vents will switch to the defrost vents whenever I press on the gas. This happens with the selector on "Heat" as well. So, I'm thinking that there is a vacuum problem. Is the entire system controlled through the selector switch? I have never torn the dash apart in my truck, and am not sure how involved that can get. Hoping someone has seen this before and can point me in the right direction.

2001 F150 Super Crew, 5.4, 145000 mi.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

More than likely you have a kinked or cracked vacuum line behind the battery box . Usually it's the one going through the firewall but I'd check them all. I would also check the vacuum reservoir behind the box.

Ha! Found a cracked vacuum line right where you said I would. Directly behind the battery box. System works great now! Thanks SteevenH!
