i have an o.e. style muffler from a local parts store. i have 2.25" to the muffler and 2.5" after the muffler. will i get an mpg increase from changing to a 24-30" glasspack? i need to have a reason for changing the muffler because i know my dad would ask why i did it. i would also like to hear the 351w! but not too loud. where do you guys get your glasspacks from?
I am running a 30" GP on my 351w now. It is not bad. Not sure if I picked up MPG or not, but the sound did change. Sounded more like a V8 than stock. It is a cheap way to go. I am replacing it with 3" from Y to high flow Catco, to Magnaflow in about two hours...............
It was good for getting me by, but not what I wanted for a full time exhaust. It was just a bandaid until I got the money for the full meal deal.
Less Restriction=More power and with more power it takes less gas to hold a steady speed. These were the fundementals i was taught. No it won't boost your MPG a lot but the little things do help.
Before I had my flows I was running Full length headers and twin 12" glasspacks that I welded header flanges and turndowns on to. That was LOUD. It was almost unbearable. I actual saved a lot of gas because I couldn't stand the noise. But now all has changed. With my New system(Flowtech Headers, Twin 40 flows, 2.5 pipe exiting in front of wheel) I can't help taking it up to 4500 rpms every other day. And the downshifts, OH MAN!! Sounds raw and very rich when it's got a good load and my foots in it good. Put just cruising around town and on the highway it is nice and mellow and quiet. My friend even thinks it sounds nicer then his LS1 '97 Trans Am with gutted cats and an 80 series!
