I am wanting to put a new air induction system on my 96 xlt 5.0. I am thinking of the K&N system but, I am not exactly sure if I have mass air or not. How do I tell? And, does anyone have any suggestions as to what type of system would work best for trying to improve my awsome 11-12 mpg?
Check out project MPG at www.performanceunlimited.com they came up with some interesting findings when they researched induction systems.
Your 96 should most likely be mass air. There is a sensor between the air filter box and the intake hose on a mass air engine. The sensor will have a wiring harness attached to it to send info back to the computer. I would think that this is the most obvious way to visually inspect for mass air. My '92 is speed density and doesn't have this sensor in the unduction system. While I am not certain, I was under the impression that mass air became standard after a certain point in time. Unfortunately, I don't know when in the Bronco production run that was.
