warranty

I have a 99 expedition with the 5.4 4x4. I want to get an extenede warranty for protection. The ford is very expensive and does not cover ( time that is) very much. warranybynet.com is offering a much bettery warranty period and equall coverage to fords top of the line.

my question is, should i pay $2800 for the ford or warrantybynet $1200? anyone heard of them? Are they any good?

Please email me soon, i am getting close to the end of my original warratny period

thanks, jason

warranty

I had an extended warranty that I got from www.warrantydirect.com on my current Ford Aerostar AWD. I had good luck with them and the shops I used for work (you can use ANY auto repair facility you choose) actually raved about them because they paid with a credit card number and did not try to badger them into using remanufactured parts, etc.. My mom also got that warranty on here Tempo and has had good luck and service as well. #1 rule in dealing with any of these warranty companies is to know the procedure!! Read the paperwork and make sure you get authorazation before ANY work is done. Also read all the fine print before you buy the warranty, make sure seals are covered, fluids too. Run through some scenarios in your mind, like "what if's" for you type of driving and talk with the representatives about what's covered in the event of ???? As a side note, I think the cut-off for a warranty was like 40,000 miles or so to get coverage (3years/30,000, that would take you to 70,000), but you have the option to continue the coverage if you contact them at least a month or 1,000 miles before the warranty runs out.

Good luck!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Nov-01 AT 11:28 AM (EST)]Jason,
I am/was in the same boat as you. A recently purchased 99 4.6 with 51,000 on the clock. I searched around and there are a boat load of aftermarket extended warranty companies out there.
Check out these sites:
http://www.carbuyingtips.com/warranty.htm
http://www.autowarrantyreviews.org/

I checked a bunch but went with Platinum Warranty Corp. http://www.platinumwarrantycorp.com

They were the least expensive, have a good rating(BBBOnline, the above Auto Warranty Review site), a history (since 84 or 85), and were very helpful. They even called my local Ford garage to verify that they (Ford garage) would work with them (Platinum). They gave me the name and phone number of the local service manager if I wanted to verify. They cover all of the points that are made in the Car Buying Tips site, offer a 100% refund if you never make a claim, offer $25/day to a rental, towing. They offer a 4-month, interest free payment period and are offering 2 free round-trip airline tix to a bunch of cities.
Their comprehensive Platinum Preferred package which includes seals and gaskets for 3 years/36k miles with a $0 deductible was $999. Their coverages were comparable to what most of the others offered - engine, trans and transfer case internals and externals, driveline, electrical including the ecu, fan, window and seat motors, a/c components, steering and suspension, brakes (not wear and tear). I call that comprehensive.
