Hey guys,
I want to buy a new truck, I currently have a gas powered chevy and want to upgrade to newer ford but I don't know if I want a 7.3 or 6.0. To me its it seems to be either buy an older truck with high milage that I know will last because my dad has a 7.3 and it seems bullet proof or buy a some what newer truck with less milage, I am aware of the head gasket and EGR problem but could anyone tell me any more problems that I should be aware of? I do not plan on chipping or tuning it in any way 325 is plenty hp to me. And if anyone wants to throw in anything they think I should look for or know feel free to post.
Thanks for any replies

Welcome to FTE K20. If your driving the K series truck upgrading to a 7.3 or 6.0 will be a huge jump for you in power. Depending on where you ask the question of which is better, will determine the answer. I love my 6.0L engine over the old 7.3 along with a great transmission. Look through our Tech Folder to familiarize yourself with the engine and maintenance required to maintain it for reliable service. Buying used is buyer beware, investigate to find as much information about the vehicle, an Oasis report from a dealer is the best source to see how the vehicle was maintained. The dealers do not give out Oasis, you have to ask nicely. Carfax is not a good source to know about a used vehicle.

Thank you I will definitely look into the tech folder, have you had any problems with your truck? I hear horror stories about the 6.0 come to find out most are from being chipped whats your opinion on that?

I have custom programming, head studs and eliminated the EGR system from working. The stock configuration is fine with no tuning, eliminating the EGR system in my opinion is a always good along with upgrading the exhaust. The stock air filter flows up to 500Hp so no need to spend your money on that item.

The 6.0 loves clean oil, impecable maintenance and OEM filters. If you find a good truck, those 3 items are the key to keeping her happy. A coolant filter is also on the wish list.

In my op. an egr delete is not necesary if you have a healthy oil cooler and keep the cooling system clean and in good shape. It's usually a plugged oil cooler that takes out the egr cooler and the egr cooler gets the blame.
