Lightbulb DVD Install - Can you help ?

Hey all:
I just got a 2001 excursion. To the best I have been able to tell, The rear entertainment pkg was not offered until 2002. So being either brave or really stupid, I located the package on ebay and ordered it. I have seen 2 versions of the system, one have the IR headphones with the "eyes" mounted in the corner of the console itself. The other version does not have "IR EYES". Now this is where I am confused....When I ordered the package it included 2 headphone and the wiring harness "both male and female ends"..Assuming that is for the Heat/AC controls and the only thing the player needs is +12V and the GND. Which will allow the audio from the DVD to play on the IR Headphones and not requiring the headunit (cd-6) to be altered and not having to pull wires thru the headliner and down the column and to the back of the head unit....is this correct or am I just being hopeful..In 2001 that package was not offered in that vehicle ( I think) and if it was, how would I tell if my radio is compatable ?
And last question...any opinions on how this will get mounted? Is the a beam going across the roof?? Or am I just being hopeful again?

AM I IN TROUBLE AND DID I WASTE THE $$ ON THE CONSOLE ??

Any info is VERY Helpful !!

I have an 03 that didn't have the DVD. I removed the rear heat/ac control and screwed my in there. I wanted the DVD's sound to play thru the trucks speakers so I got the audio interface that plugs into the cd head unit, no cutting wires. And it's not that hard running the wires the way you said That's what I did.

Was it the factory ford console you installed?
Can I use mine without the adapter/interface?
that will give audio thru headphones only?
how do I know if my radio is compatable should I want to use it thru the speakers?
Where Can I get the adapter/interface ?

Do I ask to many questions ???

Thanks again,
Michael
