I found a site yesterday for rebuilt transmissions, Rebuilt Transmissions. This is the by far the best deal for a rebuilt 4r100 tranny i have found, right now they have a special on them for $1,000 built HD. Not sure if that comes with the new torque converter, but they have them available on their site if anyone besides me is in the need, this seems the way to go, especially with no core charge and free shipping.
I looked at that and noticed they show the 4R100 and then have out to the side (gas motor). Wonder what that is about?
The best thing would be for someone that has actually used them to give you some feedback. Maybe you can find someone that has used them. At $1,000 they are basically giving it away. That sometimes scares me or at least makes me ask some questions.
they have a link to the side, i think its ford/lincoln/mercury trannys/ the deisel is under that category. i reckon the gas has a different bell housing, i saw that 2 when i first saw them, but they have 1 for the deisels.
Correction: its under 4r100, AODE, 4R70W trannies. Looked and found they do have a 1 year, unlimited mileage warranty, with extended warranties offered. But other than them, the best i have found is 1,800 with a core charge varying from $600-$800.

Reason: have more info
I would not waste your money. Depending on the HP u are lookin at, there are only two transmission builders i would even consider having buold me one. and this one isnt one of them. Even for a stock truck, u cannot beat a BTS or JW tranny. and i take it that Transmissions start at $1000 and not Built 4R100s being that cost. Some are cheaper than others. id call first and find out
