Exclamation UPDATE: Truck is down

We have determined there is not enough oil pressure for the injectors to operate. Also we have determined the HPOP res is draining back into the pan over approx 12 hrs. I just got the seal for the bottom of the res to the front cover, Dont know if that seal failed would it cause the lack of pressure from the HPOP. Thoughts.

It can cause the drain back , but not the lack of pressure ..IIRC...

Injector O rings can cause both ...Have you verified the IPR O rings ? they can cause a no start but won't drain the res ...

One minor detail that may make a difference or not the motor in this truck is not original. Somebody transplanted it before I bought it. Its a motor from a 94.5 so it uses the HPOP with the anti drainback, not sure if that would make a difference or not.

Lastly weve been concidering the possibility that the HPOP may have died and opinions on the likelyhood of this. This theory is based on it will occasionally start when its been sitting all night and the oil is at it coldest and it run for about 10 minutes till the oil gets warmer and thins out too much and gets past the seals. Not to sure about it but were chasing ghosts at this point. Ive had most of the big time diesel performance shops around here chime in, and weve been having problems getting a scan tool to communicate with the PCM properly. Tommorow morning aside from replacing the seal I was gonna get a 5000 psi gauge and connect it to my HPX line ans see what kinda pressures were getting from the pump.

High pressure oil pumps rarely die suddenly ...

Have you pulled out the drainback valve from the HPOP and looked at it?

Well Its back up, been a VERY long and rough couple days. I got home saturday morning after having been up since 9 am Friday. waited til 7 for IH to open and got some more parts. Spent the next few hours working on the truck got it to start and run by noon, finished final assembly, to drive it, took it out to drive the sir out of it, and after about 20 miles my wife called me having contractions going in to labor. Well I was driving it ni stock mode to take it easy till eveything fully seated, now the game changed I put it in 140 hp mode and floored it, and stayed in it about 10 miles, completely smoked out a 4 lane highway the whole time as it never stopped smoking. Got home loaded her and my 3 yr old daughter into the van and drove her to the hospital and spent the next 8 hrs with her as they tried to stop her from going into preterm labor (she isnt due til 1st week of sept). Left at 10 pm and got home 15 minutes later my mom took my daughter so I could go to work and my wife could try to get some rest before she was suppossed to go to work this morning. Then she started vomitting (she told them repeatedly told them she was nastious and they didnt do anything) 1st time no biggie, second time nothing new, third time large amounts of blood. So 1100 back to hospital we go, they immediately admitted her, and have been trying all night to stop the vomitting, I finally left at 3 this afternoon. The baby is ok they delivered my daughter at one week less than she is now so if they have to they can and the baby will be ok but they are trying to avoid it. The concerns is between the contrctions shes having and her stomach wrenching from vomitting, the baby may decide it time to go. So its been a wating game, they re doing there thing and were just watching and waiting, and I still have had basically no sleep and still going.

I pulled all the injectors again and inspected them never found anything to indicate a problem all the o-rings appeared intact no cuts or nicks and none were mis-shaped, or twisted. Just for the sake of arguement I changed them all again anyways with some I got from IH and it started and ran. IH said they dont get theres from Alliant power but didnt say where from. They looked alittle different in the colors but close. All I can figure is there is some sort of difference in spec that caused them not to seal the first time. I dont entirely buy that though as the last time I reasealed them with orings I got from Ford, they were Alliant o-rings. So its anybodys guess. I also resealed the CCV and never got around to the HPOP res but its not draining now so it had to have been draining out through the orings. But with the new orings sealing, the new IPR, new CPS, new fuel filter, and the newly modified injectors firing properly, and its chip its running with a HUGE power gain. Surprisingly though my 60 and 80 HP Econo modes are driving simlar amounts of smoke to my 140 HP mode, just that it will level out eventually in those where in 140 its continuous in 140 as long as your touching the throttle, and as I said in my earlier post it smoked hard enough while in motion to smoke out a 4 lane highway so heavily I could have caused accidents, as the smoke was thick, and lingered not disapating very fast. On the lower settings the smoke disapates much faster.

Glad the truck is back up and running.

Sorry to hear about your wife and the baby. I hope that she can keep it full term. I'll say a prayer for your family.

My prayers go out to your wife. Hopefully she get's over whatever she's got and gets back on her normal delivery schedule. Then again, maybe she just cooks them faster and it's time for #2 to join us out in the real world.

For the truck, maybe you should call Jody and get a no smoke tune. If you can black out a 4 lane highway, maybe you need that to change tunes, turn the corner, and disappear all innocent like from the smoke screen.
