Hi all! Looking at a 1993 explorer, eddie bauer, 4 door, cold ac, new tires, 6 cly, auto, over 100,000. miles good shape for $2200.00. What do you think? Never had own 6 cly before. Want to use it for light rounding around. Have 5.0 motors and aod trans if needed down the road to change it to a 8 cly. carburetor. Would that be to much work to change over? Thanks for your input.
Would it be a aod-E trans? I have rebuild one before. Would there be any problems to rebuild 6 cly? If needed down the road. Just dont know anything about the motor.
I personally don't like the v6's. From what I know about them they start having problems over 100K. oil pumps, head gaskets, etc. Unless it was well serviced. I'm a V8 man my self, so thats just my opinion and knowledge of the v6 so dont just take my word for it.

Thanks for your input. I 'm sure some of you all know more than us. Any help sure be nice!
i had mine since 07. bought it used in lynnwood, wa drove it to california 3 times. 3rd time when i moved back down to ca and im still currently driving it. i did have the headgaskets replaced. i would also look into a car fax to the explorer your thinking to get cause the mileage there in thousand digits they can says it has 20k, 120k when its really like 220k. but very few 1st gen explorers read hundred thousands.

Thanks for your input! Wonder what the reason for head gasket problems. Is it because they ran them hotter for better mileage. Have seen looking at a few with some rust in the water; staying away from those. Is yours a 4x4? More imput sure be nice from everyone!!!!! Thanks
In my opinion, any car/truck that doesn't have clean fluids and a clean engine means they didn't take care of it, they just put gas in it and drove it. Now I'm not say "eat off the engine clean" but if its got leaks all over the place and the fluids are dirty, then they didn't take very good care of it. That just my opinion and thats what I look for in a vehicle that I'm going to buy. If its dirty I don't buy it.

I agree with you. Has anyone rebuild a 6 cly.? THANKS for any input!!!!
Checking in to ford 6 cly's. Wow never new there were so many differant 6 cly's.over the years. From 1994 to 2000 is what I've looking into buying. What differant 6cly motors were in those years? Was there differant auto. transmission to? Had only found one 8 cly. The vehicle was in bad shape.

Since this is in the Explorer forum, I'm going to assume we are talking Explorers and not Ford's other offerings.
Only one V6 offered from '94 to '96, the 4.0 OHV engine. Starting in '97, the 4.0 OHV was still standard, the 4.0 SOHC was optional. Somewhere (can't remember if it was '00 or '01) they discontinued the 4.0 OHV.
