I am currently having problems with my 88' F250 Custom 7.3L diesel. I run off of diesel then typically switch to WVO after engine is warmed up. I have experienced some very violent shaking at random times while driving. It has occured both on the diesel and on the Veg Oil. Replaced fuel filters last week and it's still happening. Sometimes I'll drive all day no problem other times it happens 3-4 times a day. Feels like the engine is gonna jump out of the truck. I did recently break a U joint and fix it but the truck ran fine for weeks until recently.

burn veg welcome to FTE and the idi forum!!!!
sounds like you may have a bad case of air intrusion or running the veg may have caused the injectors to plug.
could it possibly be a vacuum line, if it was the injectors wouldn't it happen with more of a regularity? when i put the truck in neutral the shuttering still occurs until it decides it wants to stop.
Vacuum doesn't play any role in the operation of a diesel engine, at least not the way it does in a gas engine. Diesels have no throttle plate, and draw in as much air as they can on each stroke, then during the power stroke they inject as much fuel as needed to maintain rpm, or to achieve the power requested vs the set ramp rate, so a vacuum leak wouldn't show as anything.
The above suggestions sound about right, but does this only happen when the fuel is low or does it happen with a full tank as well? I had an old Trooper TD that had a bad pickup- If I took a corner too fast when the tank was low, it would suck air and misfire for a while until it started drawing just fuel again.
It has done it with a full tank of veg, partially full tank of diesel and veg. The truck only has 151,000 miles on it so I would hope the injector pump would still be alright. If it was just a minor shuttering I wouldn't be too concerned but its a hell-raising, bone jaring shaking. Surprised it hasn't broke the motor mounts yet.
Diesel purge wouldn't hurt, I know it does wonders on the old Mercedes diesels. Be sure to use the real Lubro Moly Diesel Purge stuff though.
I'd recommend getting the 4pack from here: AutoSport Catalog - Liqui Moly Diesel Purge 800-953-0814
I use two cans to treat an OM617 3l 5cyl engine, so you should probably use all four in one shot on yours.
I have now discovered a few exposed wires in a bundle below the fuse box, looks like the casing has been fried on a few of them. I had been wondering if maybe the shutoff solenoid had been knocked loose while driving causing the shuttering.
It sounds like a classic case of air getting in the fuel, which is probably the most common problem on these trucks or any mechanical diesel. Check all the rubber fuel lines first from the motor to the tanks for leaks or a simple kinked line. The IP and injectors on these are said to be reliable for 100,000 miles and after that its a some work some fail scenario. nate
checked all fuel lines today for both veg and diesel systems. Everything appears to be snug and in order. I am now wondering if the shut off vacuum line from the ignition is some how getting knocked loose.
