You guys and girls are always pulling me out of jam and I love this site..thanks so much.
My question is when I am towing my 5th wheel, I hear a "roar" every once in a while and last about a minute or so and fads away. No increase in RPM's or performance decrease at all...just a "roar" . Happens on flat stetches as well as slight hill climbes or off hills. Truck pulls great and was wondering what it was.
2002 F350 Dually...all stock. Teach me ? LOL

Yep....Fan kicking on to cool things down a bit. i used to have the 203* stat and the fan came on about half as much as it does now with the 193* stat.

just to be clear.......are you saying the fan came on less with the 203*?

thats the way it's seemed. and i am just speculating on it being a 203 stat. i compared it to a new 203 stat and it look exactly like it. look in my albums for the comparison pics.
doesnt make sense to me either? it could be caused by something else but im not sure yet.
It's your fan. My truck never works hard enough empty for it to engage. It only cycles when I am towing. And yes, it is loud. Scared the bejesus out of my wife the first time she heard it.

My wife freaked out when she first heard it come on also. She asked me what the heck that sound was and I said it was the jet engine kicking in to get us up the hill. I got a pretty good charlie horse on my right arm for that one.

I ask because I experience'd the same thing, with the 203* in my truck. I rarely have the fan engage while up to speed and towing. It will engage if towing in stop and go traffic on a big hill but thats pretty rare.
