Guys, I just got a total of 8 nails in my tires so I guess it might be time to look for a new set.
I'm guessing I have the original tires on there and I have around 45k on the truck and it's an 05 V10.
Suggestions (with links please) on good tires and why. I like something with good handling in the rain as it rains a lot in the winter. I mean, normally most tires handle pretty well when it's dry but not so when it rains.
Also, I wouldn't mind a good off road or mud tire but NOT at the expense of road handling, nor do I want something NOISY on the road as I ride 99.9% on the road.
I have a friend looking at some for me and I think I have the 265/65, 16 size tires.
I DO need to do this tomorrow so if anyone's up at this hour, I'd appreciate a reply. Also, if you have prices on the recommended tires it would be nice as I have NO idea how much tires are.
By the way, 6 of them are in ONE tire and right next to each other. I'm running Nitrogen in mine and I don't know if that's the reason for them not going immediately flat but I made it home without a problem. However, we'll see what they look like in the morning. I'll take pics if anyone wants to see them
The Excursion recently had Michelin LTX M/S2 tires installed and I'm impressed with them. If you can swing the price, I would definitely recommend the Michelins. Before that I had Pirelli STRs and those were also a nice set that lasted about 40,000 miles.
Check out Tirerack for all the tires available for the Excursion. Just use the website to give you an idea on what's available and for ballpark prices. Tire Search Results
I have always run BF Goodrich 285/75/16 A/T's .They are quiet, good in rain ,and great in snow. I'm on my third set and always have gotten 45-50k out of them. Just my 2 cents.

+1 on this.
BFG TA/KOs are all I will run on my trucks/SUVs. Around 225 a tire at Costco if I remember correctly
Nitto Terra Grapplers... look great, quiet, last a long time. I loved mine.
I don't know why, but I have them on my 4runner in a 265/75/16 and they have about 30k on them, and they're right noisy especially at highway speeds, but I don't mind at all, especially because I have only balanced and rotated them twice in that time frame, and they still have alot of tread left. I will be putting the 35x12.50x17 Trail Grappler's on my X when I lift it.
Sorry for the late reply guys but I don't get the notifications of replies and I am here so seldom that I keep forgetting to check back.
As for the different tires, do these tires have specific models I need to ask about? I'm sure I need more than Goodrich all terrain tires when asking or not?
I will 2nd the suggestion for the Michelin LTX M/S2's. I recently put a set on my Ex and could not be any happier. They are dead quiet, handle and track great and I saw a 1 mpg increase on a recent 3500 mile road trip. We encountered heavy rain on this trip, the tires (and the Ex) performed great.
I have had great experience with Good Year Wrangler Silent Armours, quiet, good in rain and snow (best snow tire I have ever used!), wear great (55,000 on my X still 5/32 tread). I have also had good luck in the past with BF Goodrich radial All Terrains, they just didn't wear quite as well, but still a great tire. Just my experiences, good luck!
I have to Chime on Firestone Transforce A/T's. For a stock replacement tire, I think it's the best our there. Nice tread, quiet, economical. I will never have anything else on my X. Good Luck

Sorry to go off topic here, but, fordtruckster, I see in your sig, 4.2 liftgate struts, do they have more travel? If so, I will definately do that too, I can bump my melon if I don't duck.

Yes, the struts for the rear hatch that fit the 4X2 Xs also fit the 4X4s and do have more travel up. I have done this also, the only problem is my wife can't reach it now
