Is the pre filter you guys are talking about the black plastic funnel looking thing on the bottom of the pick up tube? I'm wanting to do this mod this weekend so I'm taking notes.
Something similar to this installed just before the fuel pump inlet.
we are on the same page. i just rechecked/ everything looks good.ipr /dry icp un plug /not much diffrence took lid off filter housing its filling up but i dont know what its doing under pressure any ideas?
umbrella too close to the bottom, line pinched, got the right filters? screen in pump plugged...could be any thing...go back and check then double check everything you did during the tank mod....something isnt right..
keep in mind, the truck apparently ran fine till' you dropped the tank and did the mod. Concentrate your efforts where you changed things.
You could disconnect the hose from your fuel pump inlet and try blowing air back through the line into the tank. If there is resistance, you will have to drop the tank and retrace your steps to find it.
Disconnect the line from the outfeed of the pump. Get 6' of 5/16 or 3/8 30R7 line and connect it to the pump and clamp it. Turn the ignition key on and observe the fuel flow from the line. If you are really curious, get a cheap pressure gauge (water pump gauge-Lowes-Home Depot-etc) and a barb and clamp it on the other end.Turn the key on and observe the pressure psi.
OR
Remove one of the plugs from the fuel bowl and attach a gauge using the 30R7 line. Observe the pressure readings.
You need at least 50 psi .
I Just finised doing the in-tank mod's on mine, everything is good.. Did you put the pick up foot/screen back to the correct length.. If too long it could be suctioning to bottom of tank creating a starve for fuel problem..double check hosae bends.. as previous posts blow air back thru line you will be able to hear it in the tank..
Lets change directions for a moment. Lets go old school.
Disconnect the line from the infeed of the pump. Does any fuel leak out of the line?
If very little or none...Note:diesel doesn't burn skin or taste as bad as gasoline and this may sound discusting but...if little or no fuel flows...suck on the line...if little or nothing still...your restriction is towards the tank.
Did you route your line between the tank and frame? I suspect you have a kink (restriction) or the pick-up is too close to the tank bottom (i sure hope not).
I routed mine over and to the outside of the frame to eliminate any chance of a restriction. Then routed it through a large hole in the frame as i went from bed to cab. The entire length of my hose can be verified just by looking in a matter of minutes. The G3 filter is also mounted between the frame and body, easy access.
ok last winter i had all kinds of fuel probs.stealership changed the in tank sending unit ,because it was clogged.it was running ok not as good as usual thats why i did the in tank mods.welli just ordered a new fuel pump thinking maybe i stressed it out.i removed the old one cut it open the screen was compleatly blocked i feel confident that it could not keep up at freeway speed.its unreal ill try to post a few pics later.i also opened up the mixer(the new one)about 1/3 plugged my new stock and lift pump like guzzles will be in at 8am monday
