I see both of you have 2004 model year trucks in your signature. For what it's worth, it seems a certain build date of some late 2004 trucks were prone to having the reverse clutch drum snap ring break loose from the groove inside the case. There was a recall awhile back some time in 2005 to address this issue which has now expired unfortunately.

Yes and when that snap ring breaks and you see some leakage take it in right away. Mine did that and it started snowing and snowing. The most snow we had in 50 years. We usally only get maybe an inch or so. I live on a hill and we got over 2 feet so I drove it and kept adding fluid. After 2 weeks the snow pretty much went away so I took it in and $5,800.00 later. I have a virtually new tranny. 08 case and other updates. My fault and my decision so I pay the price but I have a good tranny now.

The change to the snap ring that caused the problem went into production at Job#1 for the 2005 model year. The 2004 trucks should not have that problem.
There never was a recall for this. There was a Customer Satisfaction Program to fix only the trucks with the snow plow package. The reasoning was that the snap ring was more likely to come out of the groove with the repeated reverse engagements that happen when plowing snow. The transmissions are no different with or without the snow plow package.
The difference between a recall and a Customer Satisfaction Program is that recalls are only done for safety or emissions problems. This snap ring is neither. Recalls also never expire. A Customer Satisfaction Program can be turned on and off whenever the manufacturer wants to.
2004 trucks had a different problem. Sometime during the model year, and nobody has an exact time of when the problem started, one of the pins that holds a planetary gear in place was not staked properly. This pin would back out and rub on the adjoining piece. This created a lot of metal dust inside the trans.
