U-joint/ball joints...one side or both?

I finally figured out my slight "pull" feeling while slow speed cornering. My shop told me it was all four ball joints and both tie rod ends...$$$$. Put it up on a lift and locked in each side seperately and tried turning each tire...passenger side was VERY hard to move, drivers side was easy. So.....since I think its a bad idea to re-install ball joints, should I do both sides, ball joints and u-joints, or just do the side that needs it now and so the other side as needed to save a little $$$. I also am looking at new muffler/tailpipe, that is why $$$ is an issue. What do you guys/gals think?

Proper way to check ball joints is to lift slightly off the ground and with a long bar pry upward from directly under the tire and see if joints are moving up n down, turning won't tell you much unless REAL bad and dry. Tie rod ends can be by turning and watching for any movement in the socket itself

I've done ball joints where they feel good and tight but when you pop them off the axle they are quite loose. The only thing keeping them tight was rust. Better to get it over with and do them all. At least you know they are good. Probably wont need u-joints.

I wasn't checking the ball joints when turning the wheel, I had already checked the ball joints with a bar like you stated, seemed to be nice and tight, no slop or movement. I have been having a slight pull, or feeling like the tires are being pulled in a groove in the pavement, only a slow speed turns. This is why I locked in the hubs (I have Warn Premium hubs, not ESOF) and rotated the tires while turning them by hand, simulating a slow speed turn. The passenger side was binding considerably, especially compared to the drivers side, locked and unlocked. My question was, should I do just the side that is bad for now of do both (I will be replacing all 4 ball joints and both U-joints). I really can't afford both at this time, but I think I am goint to anyway. I probably will be putting off the muffler/tailpipe that has rusted out.

That's pretty much my thinking also. I know the pass. U-joint is toast, so since I need to remove the ball joints anyway, I'm not going to put the old ones back in.

Are the brake calipers hanging up? That would present the same problem wouldn't it?

The calipers are not hanging up, that was my first thought too, but it got much worse when I locked the hub. Thanks for the suggestion!
