I am a mud drag racer, but my experience is limited to full sizes. Ive never owned a ranger or small pickup. So i really dont know anything about them. Im considering building a promod mud truck on a ranger chassis and body. I know what id run for a rear axle (not a 9 inch if your guessing) but i dont know if the rangers ever used a solid front axle or what i could swap 1 in from. Ive found an 83 ranger 2wd today what or where could i fit in it?
Im not cutting 1 down from a fullsize either!
Rangers have never used a solid front axle. The old ones like the '83 had a Twin I-Beam in the 2WD or a Twin Traction-Beam in the 4WD. Both are a form of IFS using two swing arms, similar to what old Corvairs & VW used. I've heard of people who have put in solid axles in 4WD Rangers, but not 2WD. That's the extent of my knowledge. If someone else here can't help you, you could look at out friends in another forum at Ford Ranger Forum - The Ultimate Ford Ranger Resource
Well, what i intend to do is completely strip the body and frame all im goin to use of it is the bare frame and body skin. From there on out everything will be aftermarket or built myself. Rear axle will be a quick change axle from sprint cars a home made chain drive transfer case. Ive heard of somebody using a toyota front axle. But i know absolutely nothing about toyotas except that i hate foriegn cars.
nevermind found the rangerstation.com it has full articles detailing swaps using various axles. I tried the ranger forum but reached the limit of threads i could view. thanks for your help guys. Looks like ill be looking for a dana 35 from a jeep now haha i dont like jeeps either ha ironic?
