I just went out and looked at my installation and can not imagine how you could get it in the wrong hose. My question is is the valve located on the outlet of the heater care or on the inlet. It would have to be on the inlet to work correctly so when closed full flow would go to filter and when opened at least partial would go to filter.

The water pump will be pushing coolant at all times, even if the supply to the heater core is closed off. The tee is NOT in the heater return line. It is in the heater supply line.

Capiche?

But as long as we're discussing design flaws - my complaint with the coolant filter is the limited flow through the filter itself. The Baldwin that comes with the dieselsite kit only has a 5/32" diameter outlet. That's pretty danged small and I would like to flow more. But, the question is, will the cabin heater still work efficiently if more flow were diverted to the filter? I dunno.

I know, that is exactly what I just said. IF you have upstream of the valve or in the wrong/other/return hose it isn't doing anygood. Where is the problem?

Yes, exactly.

Brady, I guess we are in agreement and I just wasn't following you.

Exactly, which means the other hose leaving the core, without the valve in it, is the wrong hose. And there, my friends, is your wrong hose.

Right. The thing is, that hose is not easily reached. I shot this pic the other day, and you can't even see the "wrong hose". That was the point I think, that it would be really unlikely to grab the wrong hose. But this is an '06, and it might be different on an earlier model. Plus it would be extremely easy to get the wrong hose on a 7.3 because they lay along side each other.

I got ya. I was just going by the original post and his concerns with it not flowing with max a/c on and it sounded like it was tee'd downstream of the valve somehow.
But to dovetail on a point you made, what do people do in the winter when its real cold. Is there plenty of hot water to the core and the filter or is it necessary to close the valve at the filter base if you have one?

So little coolant flows through the filter that I don't think you could possibly see any difference in the cabin heater.

LOL--one thing you don't have is a problem with heat in a 6.0 in the winter time..........except injectors, and that's a complete different story.

I start mine in the winter, let it build oil pressure, maybe 15 seconds and drive her easy. I have heat at the registers in about 1/4 mile.
