Thanks for the suggestions gt350h. I am doing a lot of that. Seems like most of the work involved in painting is the prep work so I'm taking my time. Sanding down the rust and building up the area with primer. Then roughing up the rest of the panel and giving it all a few even coats. Wet sanding between each. It's not perfect, my wife thinks it looks great lol, but I'm probably being hard on myself for it being my first time. I notice every single flaw even though it's a hundred times better than when I brought it home. When it's all done I'll get some picks up.

I know how that goes. People stop in here and look at the body work I have been doing the last few weeks. There like its looking really good and I just go .. meh its ok. I can walk around the truck and point out flaw after flaw after flaw LOL.
Hey Levi, I promise not to hijack the thread, I just don't think this question warrants its own thread and it might really relate to you. I have surface rust covering about 98% of my trailer and I was wondering if an angle grinder with like a cup brush would be a decent option. I would get a DA sander, but I don't think I'll need one of those very often and an angle grinder is cheaper and I know I will need one much more often. Any suggestions on tools or attachments?
Levi, great find for $300. Those are always the most satisfying trucks. Good luck to you, friend!

!
Neither one will remove the rust ,, you may as well sand it by hand & paint it..
Might as well just wire brush it and slap on some rustoleum rust inhibitor then paint. It makes my farm eqipment paint last for about 2 years in the south FL sun and salt air.
