I know this is an old thread but, hopefully, someone can help me....
Neal, I have a 96 f250, extended cab,SB, 2x4 that has the dual shafts.
The hanger bearing in the middle.
I'm converting this to 4x4, so my front shaft will be too long because of the addition of the transfer case.
I was going to shorten the smaller one, but I can't seem to find anyone who will give me the length's.
I would prefer to go with just one, as yours has, would you mind giving me the length of this shaft.
Never thought you could go with just one shaft.
E40D auto, also.

No, that one, i already have from the donor.
The one's on the 2x4, are...."rear" 331/2inches,,and "front" rear 321/2 inches.
I would like to keep them original, there must be a 4x4 "front" rear shaft, somewhere. I believe it's a little shorter.
If I did have to cut the front, rear shaft, I'd like to know the measurement.

That would make the one piece in the area of 65 to 66 inches long.
Seems a little long. a fella out of town has a truck for sale, f150, gasser, same model, I'll take a drive down and see whats under his, should be the same, take a few measurements.

BlueMule, you were right and measured 56,1/2 inches between center of u-joint's.
So, looks like I'll have to look for a shaft, at least, I can now eliminate that hanger bearing.

Hey guys, Here is a link to the other thread where we are currently discussing this. I propose we determine a standard for how we will measure these drive shafts and then I will post a sheet that allows us to fill out the pertinent information so we can assemble a database of sorts for this info. I haven't seen any site where this information has been neatly assembled, so I say in the spirit of the DIY'er we do it our selves.
I will be more than happy to help organize the information.
