Hey fellas, its been a while since I posted on here. Most of the time I'm just lurking and reading through lol.
I have a bit of a problem that I just can't get my head around. The dreaded turbo pipe clearance issue!
I even took the time this morning to see if I shop could do the piping for me. For as much time as they said it would take, I would be able to buy another used turbo kit!
Here are a couple pictures of what I am dealing with. The guys at the shop said they would even have to grind the ribs off the transmission to fit it!
Any advice on this? My body mounts seem like they are in good shape, but this clearance issue makes me believe otherwise
I can't even find a body lift kit as each of them are clearly marked "not for diesels". HELP!
a body lift would possibly destabilize the load on corners so they will protect themselves from lawsuit. I think it would be fine as long as you understand the risk.
As for the clearance, some guys use a bottle jack or car jack to dent in the firewall. Funny how the truck are the same but the engines seem to sit different in each one. The engine i had that was replaced was about 1" farther forward than the current one. Guys at ford said it happens all the time but it seemed odd, real damn odd to me that an engine from the same year didnt fit the same.
edit, bring it to me, ill hook you up with a down pipe. I have three different ones from 7.3 SD, 6.0 SD and a newer 6.4 down pipe. Love me some junk yards.
they dont sell diesel body lift kits, but the gas is the same exact thing. they reason they dont offer one imo is because the fan hits the plastic shroud and you will have to trim the bottom of it. any other issue i can not see. i went with a used 3" body lift kit that was incomplete, was perfect for me because i just cut them in half for a 1.5" lift. airbagit.com has aluminum body lifts from 2" up to 6" and they are WAY cheaper then the plastic ones.
George, I think wreckinball hit it right on the head. THANK YOU for the quick replies guys.
I forgot to mention that is how I made enough room on the downpipe side wreckinball...broke a scissor jack from a 2005 Ford Taurus doing it. I think I am good with the downpipe I have though, its an aftermarket 7.3L PSD stainless steel one I nabbed real cheap off ebay ($60). Too bad it is about 15* too far into the fender on that side
One of the odd things I have encountered while using the 8ft x 1" Iron rod I have, the entire firewall shifts to the side I am reefing on, before snapping back into place. I've crushed a few blocks trying to keep it in line, so I might have to come up with something else...
Thanks Oreo, I've never done a body lift before but if I can't clear it, I'm gonna nab one of those kits form that site!
