I am restoring my 66 F100. My dad purchased it new, I have owned since 75. My dad ordered it with the step bumper, western style mirrors and a spotlight. I question, does the step bumper or western style mirrors take away from its originality or is it a question of preference to replace to a stock items? I also need to replace the black dash. *** truck has one for around $700. Has anyone replaced or have seen this dash? My trucks color is Turqouise with green style rubber flooring. Anyone know where to get this flooring or who is good to work with for interior restoration. I know this is alot....my dad is coming this summer and he is 70 and I want to surprise him with a new truck. Thanks
Check the online store right here for both the floor mat and the dash pad. I agree with John if your dad ordered the truck spec'd this way even if they are dealer installed options their still original options. Good luck and welcome. Eric
I agree, if it was ordered that way, that's how you restore it. The mirrors and spot light for a fact could be ordered as an option (factory equipment). They are shown in the owner's manual. The rear bumpers were many and varied, was probably dealer installed but are ok for a restoration as well.
The turquoise color is probably the best one they ever put on those trucks.
Unless you're competing in AACA judging, nobody will care about such accessories on your truck. Make it the way YOU want it, not to please some rule book somewhere. You'll be much happier.
Thanks for your response. It's very difficult when you here from this guy or that on what to do. I think I will put it back as it always has been. Should be complete in about four months with total frame off restoration. Thanks again!
4 months to restore? I wish I had your money. Good luck with the project. Just make sure to take some befores and afters and post them in your user gallery so we can see it.
I'm probably just hoping 4 months, but I pulled the engine and trans to go over before delivery and took all the chrome and aluminum and seat off the truck to be sent out. The truck has spent most of its life in California and Kansas and the last 10 years in storage in my garage. Very little rust and solid body. It always ran and from the start is in great shape. This is a sentimental truck and I chose to put all my cards together in the restoration before I started it so things wouldn't be all strung out. I appreciate all of you input and comments, this is a cool site. Does anyone have any hints on the dash pad replacement?
Is the truck already torn down?
Have you procured all of the rubber mounts, seals, and bushings you need?
I know there are several companies that offer them (including this site) but if 4 months is the goal, you will need to have most of this after painting and before reassembly takes place.
And are you going to do a full (frame off) restore or just freshen up the paint job?
Thanks for the input, yea I already have most the rubber ordered for the frame, I do have one question, It seems that the bed doesn't have the rubber type mount that I have seen in the books just mounted to the frame. Is this correct? It is going to be total frame off. I have 4 of my good friends helping. We hauled it to the individual who is going to be doing the restoration on the body and frame last week. He is planning on blasting the frame and using POR15 on the frame, floor board etc. His estimate is that he can get the truck back anywhere from 3-5 months. I should have all the chrome and aluminum back by then. We are going throught the engine and trans and putting it in while in this guys shop and letting him build around it. I have collected stuff I needed for the project the last 6 years and saving money. My truck is a short wheel base, custom cab with 352, four speed. I still have everything original on it like the oil bath air cleaner and California emission system. I will definately post pictures when it is complete.
Please don't make us wait until completion for pics. I personally love the build up pictures. Lots of us like to watch a project come to life out of a pile of parts. It helps us to relate with the work put into it rather than just another picture of someone elses nice truck. My dad has a 74 brand X 3/4 ton that my Grandpa bought new that I'll inherit when he goes. I'll probably restore it and give it to my son. Don't really want it for myself but it holds alot of sentimental value so I'll keep it in the family. Good luck, Rich
My '66 has nothing between box and frame.
A couple of tips to help you advoid a couple of problems (you'll have enough without these!): Measure the bolts as they come off so you can get the right size - 7/16 carriage bolts are hard to find, but bumper bolts work and those with the stainless head cover look pretty good. The box, as installed by Fomoco, might not be exactly where you would like it to be, and the holes don't offer room for adjustment. If you want to modify the holes, you might wish to do so before everything's painted. Good luck!

Good tip about aligning the bed Eric. I plan to do the same since my bed was about an inch from the cab in the drivers side and 1 1/2" on the passenger side.
thanks for the tip on the bed. I went to see how far along it is. It is all off of the frame. I took some pictures and I will post on Monday when I get to work. Frame is in great shape with only a litttle surface rust. Restorer shock how well everything came apart. Didn't need to use a torch on anything. Front steering components seem solid, any hints on what I should look for besides new bushings?
