Last week I pulled the 6" lift off my truck, and went to V codes up front. The next day, I installed the Hellwig front sway bar since it was lacking a bar at all when I bought it back in June.
That said, in piecing this together, I did not have any bolts for the end links, so I simply sourced SAE bolts to go in the end links, and to mount the barckets to the axle.
Now I seem to be getting a loud "sproingy" noise (almost like a spring letting go?) in situations where the axle articulates out of parallel with the frame, such as turning into a sloped parking lot, etc.
Can anyone verify if the factory end link bolts are shouldered, or otherwise sized differently than SAE? 1/2" bolts would not fit, but next size down that I used seems a bit sloppy in the holes. If they are a shouldered or otherwise specialty bolt - I'll be ordering them from Ford.
Similarly - is there anything special about the bolts that mount the brackets to the axle? The nature of the noise makes me think the sway bar is unloading somehow, but I can't quite narrow it down and am thinking it is my fasteners that is the issue.
If you have slop you are going to havew noice. It is the same situation as if the bolts became loose. Not sure how much you torqued the bolts eitheer. If they are not torqued to the proper amount you wiull get a knock sound too. Chnage out the bolts and fit proper ones in there. I am hoping that you did not make the hole bigger due to slop. If the holes seems off drill the holes out to be smooth again. There are pictures on here of another person who torqued his bolts they snapped and he went and got his own.
