Hi Rick, the pedal definitely fades more than it used to. It goes straight to the floor the first time I push it every time. The second time I push it, it might get hard or give me some pedal. If I really pump it it just gets hard and I cannot stop the truck at all. How would I know about the IIRC? What could I check on that? Thanks so much, Norma
Did you find any play in the brake pedal from under the dash bracket.
I just found out today that mine needs to be replaced as the bracket is wearing out where the clutch rod goes through.
Never really thought about that going bad.
As long as you have full movement with no binding or freeplay the pedal and under dash bracket should be fine.
Hope it ends up being something simple n easy to fix to get you up n running again.
I had a similar problem several years ago in my 87 F250. My son and I were totally lost on fixing the problem. We did find the under the dash plate bracket had a large crack in it. When we replaced it, it corrected a minor clutch pedal problem but didn't help the brake pedal much. My son checked with a friend of his that was a fleet mechanic for a local gov't agency that has a lot of fords in the fleet. He said they had had a lot of problems with the firewall rigidity where everything mounts. Son took the truck to his place, they pulled everything off, welded a metal plate on then mounted everything back up. Didn't have a problem after that. (They also did the same thing for the clutch MC.)
The whooshing sound that was referred to sounds more like vacuum or air though.......but it might be something to check.
my truck 1997 is doing the defroster thingy right now. Like I said earlier I have a brake booster to put on it tomorrow and hope that will fix it. If not I guess I will have to look at something else.

Ifyour AC is only blowing out of the defrost vents then you have a vacuum pump that has now went out
I do have a hard brake pedal. It started out giving me one or two good pumps to stop but now it has stated getting hard any time I hit the brakes. I just replaced my vacuum pump last september. I put a napa one in last time but I can promise you that I will not put a napa one back in it. The parts always seem to go out just after the warranty goes out.
