going to rebuild a motor for my truck was wondering what to build.i have 2 motors out one is a 96 and the other one is a later one with the differnt (powdered)rods i think thats what they call them.both block look good i can still see the cross hatch in both.is there any little differences in the blocks?just going to be for pulling a small trailer some not going to be building any big power just needing something reliable.and should i look into putting in new cups in the heads for the injectors while its apart?
and another ? hows the best way to prime one of these motors when new?on a gas motor we spin the pump with the shaft but this ones on the cranks so just wondering on that.or do you just crank it over with glow plugs out?
and any other suggestions anyone has will be appreciated
thanks john
For fuel, wouldnt ya want to fill the fuel bowl, and let the pump work the air out once its started?
i'm talking oil but fuel would have to be there to i'd guess.
anyone have a tool (cup installer) they mite want to rent?hate to spend 250 to do it once
