E4OD TRANS ISSUE
Ok picked up a 94 turbo diesel truck for my son. got it real cheap because the tranny will not do anything. no reverse or forward gears, the od light goes on and off. I'm a std tranny guy so i have no clue and would appreciate any answers or where to start looking to fix the issue.. It has fluid and its not burnt nor does it smell burnt. The guy i got it from said it just would go one day. Thanks for any help

Actualy it probly needs a trans because even with out the electronics you should have second and fourth and revers. I'm asuming you checked the fluid what did it look like? also check to see if the shift selector cable is hooked up and moving the arm.

That tells the trans computer what gear you have it in. It's possible those contacts are dirty or the wiring or unit is just bad. It's a relatively cheap part to replace. The code reader should tell you if it's bad.

I agree that this is probably beyond an electrical probelm if you are getting no movement at all in forward or reverse.
With the battery unplugged from the transmission electronics, you should get:
4th gear in "D"
2nd gear in "1" or "2"
Reverse in "R"
Engagement will feel more harsh than normal.
