Today i was pulling my cousins 24' fishin boat back from the coast. Bout A 1.5 HR trip. 3/4 of the way back i went to pass a car. Was running bout 45 and eased on the gas to go arround. The truck dident down shift out of o/d and as i accelerated it was cutting up like the rpm's were jumping. The tranny temp at the time was 218*
The motor runs great i think it was in the tranny that was making the rpms jump... like the tc slippin. So i get into town and and my temps start climbing. Going from 0-45mph stop and go in town i reached a max of 235*. I did notice that from a stop my temps were at like 220*. When i would take off from a light it would drop from 220 to like 214 then when it shifted from 3rd to 4th o/d it would climb to 228-230. Even with the o/d off it would cool upon take off but once crusing at 45 for a bit leaving the o/d off it would still start to climb, turning it back on and letting it shift to 4th o/d dident help either.
I guess my concern is the skipping, jumping rpm's, slipping that was going on when i went to pass the car. Also the temps getting so high. Ive towed alot heaver stuff than that boat in the summer and never seen temps that hot.
There seems to be a transmission bug going around...
sounds like it may be time for a rebuild, heat and slipping aren't good.
I overheated mine weds, and it started slipping thurs, and by saturday I had it strapped to a pallet for the trans shop.
Check your fluid level, see if its burnt looking/smelling.
Good luck
yea i read your post earlier. you were towing quite a bit. mine wasent much at all. the trans temps and the jumping rpms concern me. mine was just rebuilt last november. custom shift kit and hd t/c.

In that case, I would take it back to the shop that rebuilt it. You should have at least a one year, 12k mile warrenty?? see what they say.
I hope its something minor.
