I have had a problem with stuttering and hesitation upon acceleration after a long period of extended drive time. I just returned from a trip to Pennsylvania and back to Florida and each time I tried to merge into traffic upon acceleration the truck would stutter with little or no power and also puff smoke from the tail pipe. It eventually gains power but this makes it very dangerous getting on an interstate.
I have had it into Ford but they cant get the truck to react the same way. I am sure it is because they are not driving it a long enough distance.
Anyone else had this problem. The truck only has 22,000 miles and it is driving me crazy.
It sounds like the CAC. There is a TSB about it. 08-28-1 that refers to it doing this in humid weather. I had mine replaced under the TSB and it is doing it again. Some have had good luck with the change or going to an aftermarket CAC. Mine does it after I have been on the interstate for any long period of time and when it rains.
Had it changed out this morning. I have another long trip planned later this week so I will see if this fixes the problem. I don't understand why Ford just doesn't issue a recall or at least notify the owner of this issue.
Thanks for the reply back.
Before I had the TSB fix I would have hesitation and white smoke. After the fix, I just get occasional hesitation after extended cruising, no white smoke. I brought it back in and of course they can't reproduce the problem.
i had the same problem and hed the CAC changed out, after a couple weeks it started again. I took the CAC off and drained out about a cup or more of water, well instead of doing this every two weeks i installed a drain ****. click on the link below and see.
CAC on my truck is dry, no water comes out at all. They did replace it this morning, then also ran a test on the cooling system and it would loose pressure so, they now have both EGR coolers ordered, an EGR and a thermostat, will wait and see but I am not holding my breath
