Exhaust leak behind the motor could be the smog line, is it still there?

OK, so i took my truck to the best place in town for exaust, and from what i was told up there what is wrong is the ball and socket joint, the socket is not big enough to fit the ball on the headers, its barely covering the hole that the exaust dumps out of the ball, and they qoted me 110.52 to re-do it up to my mufflers, like it should be done, but they also said that if i want it loud he could re-do the whole thing and put glasspacks in with any tips that i see that i like that they have for 475. and for them to do it with flowmaster 40's it'd be 575, but i don't want 40's so im just gonna forget that, what do yall think should i just park the ole girl untill i have 475 to re-do the whole thing or should i just ffix whats wrong and let it be for now?
and if theres any shop that i feel comfortable leaving my truck at...this is it. my friends dad left his '74 f100 ranger all origanal wit less then 60,000 miles on it up there, i think i can trust them..to say the least.

well it depends on what you wanna do/can do. if you can park it and drive something else, then do the exhaust right like you want it....

I had the exact same problem, i bought a new y-pipe and the pipes werent an exact fit for my headers and they never sealed right. i tried gaskets but they always burned up.

i took it to a little mom and pop exhaust shop and he cut off about 6" of pipe and flared and welded new pipes in place. Now i can actually hear my exhaust over the leak, and not inhale exhaust fumes through the a/c
i expect to pay atleast $100 but i think he charged me $50-60. Take it to another shop and dont let them try to upsell you on a whole new system.

they werent tryin to up-sell me i said i wanted tips and he just gave me a estimate on a whole new system because that way it'd be alot louder and cheaper, plus i would think something was wrong if i went to a shop and they didnt tryto sell me somethin more expensive

I recommend Percy's seal 4 good gaskets.

Check the air divertor valve on the back of the motor. Its in the center on top of the AIR tube.
