I'm on a roll, heh heh. Don't post every day but when I get a chance I like to field stuff off you folk.
In the past, grill guards have done a great job on protecting my truck engine hoods from paint chips and wear. One of the unexpected benefits on my new Scab XL is the plastic grill front extending up the lip of the hood to alleviate the grief of impact on the hood front lip. Absolutely fantastic idea.
I'm still getting a grille guard but this plastic lip is bonus.
Another area of concern for impact however is the cab roof front just above the windshield. Last truck had this problem. There are literally a thousand things a person could do to protect this area, from heavy vinyl tape to tread paint to sun visor etc. but I was curious what old timers have done to protect this area.
Personally, I'm leaning towards a thick black vinyl strip of 2" tape that follows the contours of the roof. Since my truck is Ghost white, the black would match with the trim and I can seal the edges easy enough or just replace it if it starts to peel. The aerodynamics of my new 150 gives the impression this area is quite vulnerable.
Any other ideas?
Thanks much for the suggestion. Curious though, how would this additional paint survive any better than original paint other than the fact it's an extra coating?
Excellent, thank-you very much. When I saw the words 3M 'paint' I was leery. Now I know what you mean. I think this will do a favourable job of alleviating the problem.
Thanks for the link as well, very considerate of you.
