2 questions

Hey guys, I have 2 questions today I'm hoping someone can help me with. I replaced the fuel filter today, and noticed while working on it there was a little puddle of gas on top of the intake manifold. It looks as if it's coming from front left corner of the carb (looking at it from front). I don't think the filter is still loose, I tightened it pretty well, but it looks as though it's coming from that corner of the carb, any ideas what that might be?

Also, the rear left turn signal/brake isn't working when I put on the signal nor the brake when I apply the brake. Right side works fine, and the driver side front turn signal works when I have signal on, and the tail light on the rear left comes on as does the side marker when I turn the headlights on. I checked the ground and the bulb, grounded well, and tried another bulb in it, still nothing.

Thanks for everyone's input as usual.

My best guess would be accelerator pump and turn signal switch.

Did you use teflon tape on the threads of the filter?

i agree. the quick fix would be to change the accelerator pump with the carb still mounted and a screwdriver with a bend on it. if it didn't work, pull the carb and rebuild it, replacing the float, too.

Probably off base, but I'll throw it out there. By any chance are you using a spacer bew=tween the carb and manifold? They have a tendency to warp. No amount of tightening will seal em up.
In regard to the tail light, Even though everything may appear to be a good ground, I' take it apart and clean everything up just in case. Looks can be deceiving.

I thought you may have a tear in your accelerator pumps diaphram spitting out fuel but after rereading your post i see you meant the left side (looking at it from front) which is opposite the a/p location.

No, gas does not dissolve the teflon, and they could leak without it.

I have always been taught not to use conventional teflon tape on a fuel filter. The guy I bought my truck from had used teflon tape on the fuel filter and the threads were all gooey and nasty when I rebuild the carburetor. I've also heard of people using teflon tape to seal the threads on power valves, only to find the tape to break down.

Nonetheless, in my experience the fitting will not leak if the threads are clean and the fuel filter is snug.
