understanding the air injection system (thermactor)
The truck seems to run great, always starts, gets decent milage on the freeway, it does not smoke in any way or ever overheat. I am only the third owner and I personaly know the orginal and second owner, so I know the life of this truck. The only thing I want to chage at some point is it's 3.31 gearing
The only issue is it sounds like it has an exhaust leak directly in front of the passenger seat. At first I thought is a manifold leak. But now I think it most likely is the thermactore system, or more specificaly the valve.
I am seeking more education on this system, its uses and what if any of it I can delete, or if its better to just fix it and leave it on. We do have emmisions in my area so I need to know its affects for that.
I do know that it injects air into the cat to burn excess hydocarbons while the truck is cold. But what about while warm?
Does anyone know the specific part numbers I need to replace? or a place either on line or NAPA etc where I can get it?
I am also looking to possibly replace the entire exhaust system, including the cat, with a single in, dual out going straight out the back, please see this parts list from summit.

Any and all feedback on this topic would be highly appreciated!
here is a pic of my truck
Also pumps air to the cat at times during "warm idle" and during "warm cruise".

180K +, How is the exhaust system in general? If its in otherwise good shape other then the leak, I'd just fix the leak, replace the part/s needed to do so and be done with it.
Now if you want to take the opportunity to do more as in needs "fixed" now anyway (what you tell the girl friend or wife makes no difference to us!!), make the exhaust system as a whole flow better then.....?
I was thinking of replacing the system in part to fix this noise problem, free up a pony or two, and moslty because I love the look and sound of trucks with duals out the back.
