Texters

Why is it people can't use punctuation, capitalization and full words when they post on forums? Are people so lazy that they have to type the way they text? It takes me twice as long to read some posts where people are asking for help with their trucks because they type like they text.

Guess I'm officially old and grumpy now.

And pull up your pants!

Personally, if it takes too much effort to read a post and figure out the posters meaning, I just move on. I imagine that I'm not the only one, so those people who type like they text, like you mention, or those people who simply can't put together comprehensible sentences and paragraphs, just don't get the help they are seeking.

I don't mind it so much in the forums because we can chose who we respond to - and like was stated above, those posts that are hard to read/comprehend tend to get ignored.

It drives me crazy though when I get an email, either personal or professional that contains the ridiculous abreviations or shorthand. If it has "LOL" anywhere in it, my blood boils.

Well I realize that it is annoying, and myself have seen several posts with no periods in it at all, however there are people who use a blackberry and such to get on the forums and in some cases it is easier to use short hand. Personally I prefer to punctuate even while texting. It bugs me to see "u" or "y" when it takes only a second more to type "You" or "Why."

Just my two cents.

R, U, Y, 2, B, etc., I use when texting because the buttons on my phone are small and shorter words are easier words. I use 'lol' in posts because it's useful in letting people know when you're kidding, since the written word has no emotion. I am a stickler for spelling, though, and the use of your/you're to/two/too and there/their errors. I hate them more than anything. I hate them even more because a lot of people that I'm sure are very smart simply don't take the time to learn the difference in the words.

I remember seeing on the news programs about kids useing text words etc. on their school papers, and thinking that it was Ok to do so.
I for one think that young Americans especially are way too lazy.
I also hate texting. If someone texts me, I either ignore it or I will call them back and ask them if they are so lazy that they can't call and talk to me.

Same here. I don't think there will be much conversation in young people about 10 years from now. I've actually seen two texters sitting side-by-side and texting each other rather than using speech. Makes me wonder how they'll do in job interviews.

I use texting with my kids, it's much easier. All my messages are rather short though, as in "GET HOME NOW!", "Where are you?" etc. Actually I have several saved into drafts, so I don't have to type them in. I will admit though, that while texting, and sometimes in here I will use thru instead of through. So shoot me, lol.

I just recently started texting, but I do the same thing. Spell it all out and use punctuation. I also include the entire message in one text. I can't stand the 18 short texts in a row because you're scared to type more than a couple of words in each message.

I just skip over posts from people that are too lazy to type things out. It's the texting while driving I see every day that gets under my skin. I can ignore a post. I try me best to avoid the idiot drivers, but I'm afraid it's only a matter of time.

I also use the "T9 Prediction" setting so that I just have to hit the number and it brings up the possible words. After you use it for awhile and your phone remembers what you want typed it works a lot faster. As well as making it harder to use smaller versions of the words.

Agreed!

In my 11 years of posting on forums/bb's/heck, anything, I always try to use the best spelling and punctuation I can. You can search through my entire 4,000+ posts and confirm my story. If I don't know how to spell it, I type the abomination into Google and hope it gives me the right answer

Sometimes my fat fingers on these tiny laptop keyboards get the best of me though...
