I have a post in the 4x4 section, but thought it would be better served here. I am building a 1979 F250. The truck had a 360 in it when new. I went to 351 about 16 years ago. I ended up with a 97 donor F350 with a F.I. - Roller Tappets - # F4TE-AAS motor/trans and T-Case. The 5.8 is bad. Haven't opened it up yet. My question is should I rebuild and use this motor with the 97 FI or stay with the 1970is 351W?
The 5.8 can be turned by hand quite easily. Little or no compression.
that 5.8 roller cam motor is very desireable. so i would say yes but i wouldnt use the efi from that 97 as its speed density efi. if you want efi get a mustang mass air complete harness and a9l or a9p ecu and you will have a setup that gives you more room for cam choices and other hope up add ons. you would still retain all of the efi hardware on that motor though so dont get rid of that stuff.
now just curious are you sure you installed a 351w and not a 351m as the 351m was standard motor in that 79 F250.
