My 2008 has 10,000 troublefree miles on it. The other day I left it idling, got out of the truck & the engine was making a knocking/tapping noise almost like a rod knock. I shut it down & started it cold the next day, no noise, no check engine lite. Made an appoint with Dealer for two days later, did not use. When I took it in the check engine lite was on and it showed 3 fault codes. Dealer says it is a faulty glow plug harness.
Does this sound reasonable? Should I drive the truck before harness is replaced? Thanks for any advice.
Isn't the glow plug just used at start up? After it is running isn't the glow plug heated by the combustion? If that is the case then why would it make noise while running?

oops I misread that as injector harness somehow. This engine barely needs glow plugs. You're right! That should have no bearing on engine noise at all.
I had glow plug issues with my 08. Engine light would come on, code was for a bad glow plug. I had the plug replaced but still had engine light on. Next trip they replaced the glow plug module. Still had the engine light on after that. They finally fixed the problem by replacing the wiring harness to the glow plug module. Three trips later it is as good as new. Aggrevating but all costs were covered under warranty.
Forgot to mention that mine did not make any noise while I was having the problem and the dealer did say it was OK to drive it until I got the plug repaired.
