I have a 2005 F150 with 105,000 miles on it. About 101,000 I started experiences a small "shutter" or slipping of the transmission it feels like. It only happens when the truck is in overdrive and I've slowed down so the rpms are very low (1200-1500) and I gradually get back into the gas pedal. Has anyone else experienced this or heard of anyone else having this problem? If it is a problem with the transmission is there a way to fix it or do they replace the transmission and I spend 4,000-5,000 bucks? Thanks for your help or advice!
I'm experiencing the same thing (2006 F150, 5.4, 73K mi.). It's more of a brief "stutter" or "hammer", then it goes away. I'm leaning towards a possible bad coil pack, since the tranny is smooth and solid under load and acceleration.
My only problem is that I don't have a CEL on and have no code, therefore I don't know which coil pack it could be.
I thought mine was transmission related too, but now I think I've got an ignition problem.
Mine would not throw a code and kept getting worse. After it got bad enough, I was able to get a "pending code" of "#3 cylinder misfire". I changed out the #3 COP and it got better, but still stumbles every now and then.
Instead of shot-gunning all the other COP's at $40 a pop, I'm gonna do the dreaded spark plug change this weekend and see if that clears it up.

Has the transmission fluid ever been flushed? I would try that first. But if that doesen't help, I would seek out a reputable transmission shop and have it rebuilt before shelling out big bucks for a new one, which is probably a re-manufacterd one anyway.
I just recently experienced a similar issue with my 2004 F-150 that only has about 70,000 miles on it. I found that whenever my overdrive was on, the RPMs would go pretty high and then it would slam into gear. I had it checked and was told that the tranny might need to be rebuilt and for now to keep it from happening to drive my truck with O/D off, and so far it's helped.

How many miles on the fluid? I understand that sometimes we like to keep things as original as possible but if you have 70K miles on the fluid then I would think your solution is obvious.

I agree, although the fluid is new. It was just changed it a month ago, but the thing is that this problem started just a few days ago.
Well when I checked it, it was really low so I drained the rest of it out and then added new fluid.
A drain and fill will replace about 4-5 qts of fluid (give or take). A fluid exchange without a cleaning flush will use 13-15 qts. You can look at the capacities table in your driver's manual to see what your's will hold. A flush with the cleaning fluids might be a little risky this late in the game. Personally I only do fluid exchanges, no cleaning chemical flush. Anyhow with all that being said 1/3 clean oil and 2/3 (70K) old oil, you may still be experiencing this OD issue because of the old oil. Also having been 'really low' when you checked it, you may have had some slippage going on that put fine containments in that remaining 2/3 oil. The lowest cost and first action I would take in troubleshooting the OD issue is a full fluid exchange. Someone else might comment on a different action for you but this is my shot at it.
