no need to take the Rad off. Its not touching the pan. Also i don't think the lower rad hose will touch the pan either. So should be straight forward job far as the pan goes.
I'm about ready to do this job. Finally cool enough. One-piece FelPro OS34601R gasket. Use sealant any place on the block or pan? I'll remove the rings at the pan bolt-holes. Looks like I'll, at least, need to take the shroud off. FSM says to remove radiator? Jack at harmonic balancer? Thanks
I only had to pull the tranny backwards a few feet. Sounds easier to me than all the pan stuff. What is you year and model? What engine? I'm pretty sure the one piece seal only requires tranny removal though.

No need for any sealant, just make sure the pan and block are squeeky clean, especially around the rear main.
Take the shroud off, but leave the rad in place. You may need to take the rad hoses- keep an eye on them AND the rear of the valve cover while you're jacking the engine up at the balancer. BLOCK THE ENGINE UP between the motor mounts and the frame so it can't pinch you or fall down.
It should take a couple 2 X 4's.
Good luck.
