well, shortly after i got the truck i replaced the rear shoes and springs(drum brakes). i drove it around some, now the rear brakes are so over adjusted, its like i only have rear brakes. just lightly stepping on the brakes makes the rears lock up, which makes for an interesting time at the drive thru. they slide on the slightest bit of dirt on the road. its impossible to slowly come to a stop, or even move up in traffic.
I've got similar problems. Drive your truck around a bit and see if the front wheels are differing temperatures. If they are, one side or the other is dragging, and makes the rears doing all the stopping, and your fronts just damn near lock up because they are already partially engaged. I know that's what my problem is, I just haven't had the time to dig into it and see why they are dragging. I'd immediately suspect the slide pins are stuck. Luckily, I carpool with a guy to work so I've not had to drive my truck much.
Check your slide pins on the front calipers, see if they are stuck. If you can get them out without damaging them, clean them up with a wire wheel and cover them generously with antiseize paste.
its not my fronts, its my rears that lock up instantly. i can tell under normal driving that the rears are grabbing MUCH sooner then the fronts, and if i didnt have the fronts smoking the other day i wouldnt know they were even grabbing.
The rears are probably grabbing because your fronts are binding up. Your fronts are smoking for a reason, probably because they are overheating and you are actually losing braking efficiency on the fronts and just burning off pad material. Check the slide rails.

well the slide rails and caliper are brand new on the drivers side, rails are freshly lubed on the pass side. they were smoking cause i was hot-rodding the truck down a back mountain road. so slide rails are fine. i replaced the front caliper and all the pads and it was fine after that. did the rears and no i got ***-drag syndrome lol.
