Edge worth the update?

I have had my Edge for 3 1/2 years and have never updated it. It won't let me custom program anymore so I was thinking of doing an update. My fear is that that I have heard horror stories of trucks not starting after an update. How concerned should I be?

Give them a call and I'm sure that they will be able to calm your fears.

And if Edge says yes, make sure you flash your truck back to stock BEFORE you update it.

I just reset mine to stock, then take it out and update it. I also take it out before I take my truck in for warranty work. I never have had a problem. In the manual it does say to reset to stock before removing it.

I did the update but don't think there was really any difference.

My truck has a weird issue where I get Failsafe mode in Level 3. Edge did some special programming which fixed it, but they told me not to run any future updates. If yours is running fine you might want to consider leaving well enough alone.

Was it related to the after market intake (a pretty common issue)?

I have the edge for 3 years and updated it once with no problems. On the second note, I updated it because I saw a newer version but after I did it, I did not notice any improvement in the truck's performance.

Yes and no. I have an intake and they originally thought that was the cause. It wasn't. After more failsafes they figured it was because my 06, which was purchased new in 07, had an 07 PCM package flashed to it. It took them by surprise.
